Intersection upgrade to cater for increased volumes of heavy vehicles including Type 1 and Type 2 road trains servicing the Townsville Port and allied industries as well as the increased usage of the general through route from the South side of Townsville via to the CBD and further North via the Townsville Port Access Road.
The intersection as one of the busiest intersections around the Port, handling around 440 cars and trucks per hour.
The project involved widening the intersection footprint by adding turning lanes, reconfiguring existing kerbing, relocating some existing infrastructure and resurfacing works.
